“Baptistikos” by Th. Sakellaridis, the most popular Greek operetta beloved by generations for its wonderful music and hilarious plot, will be brought to life once again at the Olympia Theatre. Following the success of *Idomeneo* by W.A. Mozart, George Petrou returns to direct and conduct the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Municipality of Athens.
Joining him is a team of distinguished lyric singers and actors, who will revive Sakellaridis’s masterpiece in a timeless production that blends contemporary aesthetics with Art Deco elements from Greece’s Belle Époque.
Presented in its authentic 1918 premiere version, with orchestration by the composer himself, *O Baptistikos* brings the work closer to the sounds of J. Offenbach, F. Lehár, and J. Strauss II. With waltzes, polkas, tangos, mazurkas, and beloved melodies with a Greek flair, this colorful musical world stands as one of the most significant monuments of modern Greek culture.
